Alchemy Winterlude 2025

Alchemy Winterlude

February 10 - 16, 2025

A new adventure in Prince Edward County - a visit in the winter. There were 6 of us, including Claire, our facilitator visiting the county during a very snowy, blustery week. We were divided amongst 3 homes, Claire at the Blue House, Linh and Peggy at the Lavender Farm B&B, and I plus Jill and Sooyeong were at Chetwyn Farms in a lovely 3 bedroom house with a full kitchen. We were all on the same road - Closson Road and our studio was located at Closson Chase Winery. It was a tight fit, a wee bit chilly (I was ok) and close to all of us.

I spent the week experimenting with gel pads for mono printing. I was very happy with the results of my time spent printmaking. I worked on a system to create portraits of all the artists and people in the county that were supporting our project. There were great ‘aha’ moments when all the artists were sharing ideas and details on how we worked during our studio time.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the lively conversations every night at dinner as we took turns hosting the group. On my night to cook, I presented a Sicilian dinner with traditional fennel and orange salad, lemon roasted chicken, caponata, artichokes, and ‘mpignalate. Loved the week - best recommendation - extend it for 10 days!

The first six images I played with a horse stencil I created, layering paint with both brush and roller. Each image is 9 x 12 inches.
