Prima della Carduta ~ Galapagos

In 2023 I travelled to the Galapagos Islands. There was so much animal life, plant life and marine life that subjuect matter was overwhelming. I became fascinated with lava fields of Isla Isabela. The rugged terrain, complex colours and strength became an obsession. Creativity thrives not inspite of the harsh surroundings, but because of them. The raw energy, the potential and the devestation where new things grow is inspiring. The title: Prima della Carduta translates to ‘Before the Fall’ was inspired by a friend’s disastrous fall on the lava at the end of our walk. She broke her hand in three places. These image sources were documented before her fall and became an important part of the imagery. By intensifying the red hue of some of the lava (which started as red iron in the black lava) it became an important part of the story and the accident.
